Successful entrepreneurs improve lives by creating innovative products or services to enhance the standard of living. In addition to their products and services, entrepreneurs create opportunities through jobs and tax remittance for our economy to grow and prosper. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) census data, the rate of unemployment amongst the youth in Kenya is at 38.9% and any opportunity to equip the youths with entrepreneurial skills is treasured.
Kipkelion Youth Service Co-operative Society Ltd (KYSC) a youth owned co-operative society wants to venture into entrepreneurship by setting up novel coffee café’s: A Coffee Tuktuk and a container-based Coffeehouse. DGRV/GKCD and KYSC partnered from the onset of the youth co-operative and also jointly developed a business plan for both business concept. After the startup capital for both cafeterias was determined through the business plan KYSC’s fund raising proposal skills were shaped through a capacity development training conducted by DGRV/GKCD in July 2022. For entrepreneurs to succeed, a nurturing ecosystem is essential.
