An Annual General Meeting (AGM) is a mandatory yearly gathering of an organization’s interested shareholders. As required by law, Annual General Meeting is a mandatory yearly gathering of any Cooperative’s shareholders. It is the governing meeting of the Cooperative which brings members and directors together to share reports of the previous year, financial statements, make strategic decisions on other affairs of the cooperative, approval of budgets and elections for the Board of Directors.
As practice of good governance and strict adherence to the by-laws of Kipkelion Youth Service Co-operative Society (KYSC) as well as the Co-operative Act, our partners, Kipkelion Youth Service Co-operative Society conducted their second AGM on 14th April 2022 at Sahara Gardens, Kericho Town. The ADM had 35 (85% turnout) attendees ranging from the members of the Kipkelion Youth Service Co-operatives, Directors of the Board, Supervisory Committee, representatives from the Co-operative Department, Kipkelion District Coffee Union and German Cooperative and Raiffeisen Confederation (DGRV)/German Kenyan Cooperative Development (GKCD). The AGM was fully funded by GKCD/DGRV.
The AGM was successful, and Kipkelion Youth Service Co-operative Society was able to achieve the following set objectives:
- Informing members of previous and future activities.
- Sharing society’s financial statements and review fiscal information (audited and approved financial report) for the past year with members.
- Making important decisions regarding the operations of the society going forward like fixing of maximum borrowing powers, indemnity amount, choosing auditors and bankers.
- Election of retiring board of directors – A third of the board of directors who were retiring were subjected to election/re-election.
- Marketing of their new Coffee Tuktuk Business and the society in general.
- Creating partnership and linkages.
We, GKCD/DGRV wishes Kipkelion Youth Service Co-operative Society all the best their endeavors as they intend to extend their horizon.
