Our partner, Kipkelion Youth Service Cooperative (KYSC), is a youth cooperative society that is finding innovative ways of doing business in the local hospitality Industry. Its main objective is to promote its members through economic participation. The background of these youth is in the Coffee growing areas and they are planning to implement businesses which are adding value to their local coffee value chain.
KYSC are soon going to open a mobile café in Kericho housed in a converted Coffee TukTuk –the first of its kinds in Kericho! The Coffee TukTuk Business is the first mobile Café in Kericho that will resell coffee grown by KYSC members themselves as take away cappuccino & co., together with simple snacks, and popular hot snacks at lunchtime.
With support from GESTE Foundation, through DGRV/GKCD, KYSC bought a brand new TukTuk, which has undergone significant fabrication works to suit the nature of the business. We are proud to state that the conversion of the TukTuk to a mobile café was successful done. All the necessary equipment have been bought and installed in the Tuktuk ready for operation of the business. This innovation is the first of its kind!
The Converted Tuktuk has also been branded to give the business more visibility as KYSC plan to open the business. The branded tuktuk also has the QR Code for the menu of the Café. In addition, KYSC also undertook successful recruitment of staff for the Coffee TukTuk Business as well as a comprehensive induction training to equip them with the necessary skills to ensure they are effective in handling of the business and the clients in general.
We look forward to the launch of this project and the success of their business innovation!
