Young people are highly energized and eager to take advantage of the opportunity to serve their community as they generate income to sustains themselves.
Kipkelion youth are not an exception as they came together to have a vehicle that will enable them harness the available resources and make use of opportunities available, in order to address urgent development needs.
Through help of DGRV/GKCD and Kericho Co-operative Department, the youths managed to register their Youth Service cooperative Society. As a requirement after registration of a cooperative society, KYSC organized for their First General Meeting for 12th November 2021, just weeks after they received their registration certificate.
In attendance were 65 participants, made up of 40 youth, and the rest were representatives from DGRV, KDCU- the mother organization supporting them, Ministry of Cooperatives, and other invited stakeholders.
The most critical agenda of the meeting was to elect a working management committee that will take up the leadership task of creating a stable structure for the day to day running of the society. A team of 9 Board of Directors was elected, and with such a leadership in place, we look forward to a service cooperative with strong foundation and robust administration from the inception stage going forward.
To ensure accountability of the operations and resources, the member also elected a team of 3 supervisory committee members who will oversee the management of the society by the Board of Directors, and on behalf of the Co-operative. They also ensure protection of the shareholders’ interests.
Quality time was spent discussing the activities that the service co-operative is planning to venture into which included their membership recruitment, governing by laws, businesses they plan to undertake as well as their leadership positions.
With the support of partners, stakeholders, mentors and members KYSC looks forward to kicking off its activities come the year 2022!
