Business Development

Through the partnership between Kipkelion Youth Service Co-operative Society Ltd (KYSC) and DGRV/GKCD, KYSC as a cooperative has witnessed noticeable growth in its management, leadership, operation as well as plans towards sustainability.

In addition, the partnership fostered with GESTE Foundation saw KYSC start up and operate its popular brand KYSC CoffeeTuk business in Kericho.  The Coffee Tuk business commenced in August 2023, the journey has been great, characterized with achievements, lessons learnt, as well as its own normal start up challenges to learn from.

In the month of February 2023 (19th– 23rd), KYSC Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee members alongside DGRV/GKCD team undertook one-week collaboration activities: KYSC Business Monitoring in Nairobi on 19th and 20th, and KYSC Advisory Field Work in Kericho on the 22nd and 23rd; both activities aimed at sustainability of KYSC and its CoffeeTuk business.

The 2-day Business Development workshop in Nairobi was held at DGRV/GKCD offices. This was dedicated to establishing the growth progress of the cooperative, identifying actions points for some of the pressing matters. The overall objective of KYSC’s institutional development as a co-operative and CoffeeTuk economic sustainability.

The second half of the week was dedicated to KYSC Advisory Field Work in Kericho, after the business workshop in Nairobi. This was done jointly between DGRV and KYSC where the 2 days were committed to implementation of the action points on the ground. The main objective of both engagements being the sustainability of the KYSC as a business; strengthening governance of the Kipkelion youth service cooperative; policy development and sourcing for experts to increase accountability and transparency in the Kipkelion youth service cooperative.

As a result, KYSC were able to achieve the following:

  • Strengthened the financial management and leadership competences within KYSC,
  • Enhanced leadership guidance of the cooperative through the board meeting, which enable them to steer the organization in relevant matters, and
  • Motivation to continue promoting innovation within their cooperative, and in turn be a good model to other youth driven co-operative

The primary driver is to fulfil the KYSC strategic plan 2022-2025. And in all this, we can proudly say that the week was a success!

We continue wishing KYSC stability and growth business ventures of 2024 and beyond!
