Through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Germany supports the Kenyan government to facilitate economic growth, achieve sustainable poverty reduction and eliminate social disparities since 1975.
BMZ is the sole donor of DGRV’s / GKCD’s project interventions in Kenya.
Currently, BMZ cooperates with Kenya in the following priority areas:
- Agriculture
- Health
- Promotion of youth employment and vocational training.
Still, Kenya is the second largest economy in East Africa, after Ethiopia. In 2017, economic growth was 4.9 per cent, with the World Bank predicting growth would continue at five to six per cent in the next few years.
Agriculture as the most important sector of the economy, providing a living to around 70% of the population. Therefore, a sound Co-operative development is crucial as most farmers are operating organized in form of self help groups, pre co-operatives and co-operatives.
